Bubble Coral (variations: Cat's-eye Bubble Coral, Pearl Bubble Coral, Green Bubble Coral)

Scientific Names

Plerogyra

Hardiness

One of the hardiest LPS corals, and possibly one of the most resilient.

Plerogyra can withstand surprisingly poor water quality and chemistry conditions for a limited period of time. While keeping them under such conditions is not advisable and will not lead to long-term success with this coral, aquarists can have confidence that this coral can withstand many temporary water quality issues that may arise.

This makes Plerogyra an excellent choice for the beginning LPS keeper.

Flow

Plerogyra enjoys moderate, random flow. Enough to see the polpys moving, but not being blasted.

Lighting

Low for an LPS coral. Will thrive under Power Compact/VHO lighting. The lower the lighting the more often the coral should be fed.

Placement

Just about anywhere, depending mostly on lighting. The Plerogyra doesn't need copious amounts of light, making it a good candidate for the lower portions of the tank, thereby saving room closest to the lights for more light-loving corals.

Feeding

This coral doesn't require, but enjoys, occasional feedings of small, meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, small chunks of fish or shellfish. If the coral is damaged or recovering from stressful conditions, a good feeding is advisable to give the coral extra energy needed to heal.

Propagation

This coral does not lend itself to simple propagation techniques. As the skeleton is not branching, invasive techniques are required to frag the Plerogyra. Not recommended for the faint of heart.

has long swepers

Availability

This coral is readily available, and very common.
