Here's how you can add an article to ReefPedia.
Background
At first, the method by which you add articles may seem a bit strange, and possibly backwards from the way you're used to the Internet working. Typically, someone would create a page or thread on a site and then the link would be created.
With a wiki such as ReefPedia, you actually have to make a link to the article you want first, then click on it to create the page. I know, sounds weird, but you'll get the hang of it quickly. On the main page are the main categories that have been created thus far. Find a category that best suits the article you want to place. Go to the category page and add your page by creating a link to it (i.e. [[article name]]). Save the page then click on the link you created. A page will open which you will be able to enter your text.
Be sure to link your article to the category by place a link back to the category, at the top of the page (i.e. [[category:fish]]. Take a look at the Euphyllia divisa page and look at how it is edited, you will see how the links work.
Step-by-step methods
Method 1: The Easy Way
- See the "search" box in the left column of the site? Type in the name of your new article there and click "Go."
- You will be taken to a blue box with the headline, "create this page." In that box will be several options- start a blank page, or start with one of our templates. Click the link for the option you want.
- You're good to go!

Method 2: A little more difficult, but a better way to do it
- First thing you should do is navigate to a category that you think your article should fall under. If you think it fits in more than one, just pick one (no worries!). If you're still unsure, you can use the Sandbox as your starting point.
- When you get to that category page, or the sandbox, click edit to edit the page.
- Within the page, type the name of your article inside brackets so it looks like [[This]].
- Click "save" to save the page that has your new article name now added to it.
- When the page reloads, click on the article name you created, which should now be a link.
- This will take you to the new, empty page, for you to start adding content. You'll also have the option of using our pre-made fish, coral or invert templates to do so!
