Introduction
Trachyphylliidae encompasses the corals known as "open brain corals." These corals are characterized by a flat calcareous skeleton and are commonly classified as LPS Corals.
They extend short feeder tentacles, usually at night (i.e., when the tank lights are off) and can be fed small bits of meaty foods.
Common Species
Common aquarium corals of the Trachyphylliidae include Trachyphyllia and Wellsophyllia.

FAQ:
What do you typically look for in a healthy brain coral before buying and then how can you tell it is happy in your tank?
You want to look for skin recession, you also want to make sure that there is no skeleton coming through the coral.
Do people tend to find that the colour of the open brain tends to determine what type of lighting intensity it does best under or does it not matter?
